Follow Your Heart
Without being reckless.
Without being reckless.
Many people mistake "following your heart" as indulging in your wants with reckless disregard for the consequences. This has caused many to distance themselves from their emotions and be over-reliant on their brains.
But the truth is, "following your heart" allows you to give careful regard to the results of your actions.
Your emotions are an indicator of alignment to your greater good. Negative emotions like anger, frustration, or pain are a warning sign that there is something wrong. Positive emotions like joy and peace are indicators that all is well.
Our bodies hate feeling uncomfortable, so it tries to avoid these negative emotions by suppression, blaming, or acting out. What we should do instead, just like when we encounter a red light, is to treat these emotions are signals to stop and re-evaluate.Â
Sometimes there's something wrong with our circumstances like bad management, unhealthy relationship, etc. Sometimes there's something to be adjusted in our thinking instead, like victim mindset, illusion of helplessness, etc.
It's only after we've made the appropriate adjustments will we get the green light of positive emotions around the circumstances.
This is where I help my clients. Giving them a safe space to explore their emotions. Then releasing the belief that's keeping them from making changes to their circumstances, or the unhealthy meaning they're giving to the situation.
May I challenge you to just be aware of your emotions as you go through your day today. Don't judge the emotion as good or bad, but just observe them as useful indicators of the situations you are in.
Use these emotions (aka. your heart) as a compass to point you to your "true north", showing you the way to a peaceful and joyful life.
May the rest of your summer be beautiful and enjoyable!
